# Modding the PlayStation Classic with Project Eris ### Requirements * PlayStation Classic console * USB 2.0 Flash Drive (low profile recommended) * Rufus formatting utility Windows or GParted/Similar for Linux * Project Eris mod files - ### Step 1: Format the USB Drive to FAT32 1. Plug the USB flash drive into the computer. 2. Open Formatting software 3. Select the USB drive under the "Device" dropdown. 4. Set "Boot selection" to "Non-bootable". 5. Change the "Volume label" to **SONY** in all caps. The mod will fail if the drive is named anything else. 6. Set the "File system" to "Large FAT32". 7. Leave all other settings at their defaults and click "Start". 8. Once the format is complete, close Rufus and delete any files that may have been generated on the flash drive. ### Step 2: Prepare the Mod Files 1. Download the Project Eris zip file and extract its contents. 2. Copy the extracted folders directly onto the root of the newly formatted USB drive. 3. Safely eject the USB drive from the computer. ### Step 3: Initial Console Installation 1. Ensure the PlayStation Classic is powered off. 2. Plug the USB drive into controller port 2 on the front of the console and turn it on. 3. A splash screen will appear indicating that Project Eris is installing and creating a backup of the system. 4. Wait for the process to complete. The console will automatically power itself off when finished. ### Step 4: Back Up the Console Data and Reformat 1. Remove the USB drive from the console and plug it back into the computer. 2. Create a new folder on the computer and copy all contents from the USB drive into this folder for safekeeping. 3. Right click the USB drive in the file explorer and select "Format". 4. Change the file system to **NTFS** and format the drive. 5. Once formatted, copy all the files from the backup folder back onto the USB drive. ### Step 5: Finalize and Add Games 1. Plug the drive back into the PS Classic to verify the new mod boot menus appear. 2. To add PS1 games, open the USB drive on the computer and locate the folder named `transfer`. 3. Copy your legally obtained PS1 ROMs into this folder. 4. Safely eject the USB drive, plug it back into the PlayStation Classic, and launch Project Eris to see the new games automatically populated.
